Day 66 - Busselton to Margaret River (44kms)
We drove to Busselton Jetty which is the longest wooden piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere at 1,841 metres.
We walked to the end stopping on the seats for a rest (for Bronte), to watch the boys fish for squid and to chat to the locals fishing. Once we got to the end we sat and admired the view for a while and then it was time to slowly make our way back. The boys stopped a thousand times to throw in their line and eventually Rog caught a decent sized squid.
We saw some huge splashes which the locals said would have been the 2x King Fish. We also saw a pod of dolphins which was lovely after missing them at Bunbury. Rog caught another squid and then I had to give the boys the move on as we had been on the jetty for nearly 3 hours!
The kids had a quick play at another amazing foreshore park and then we hopped in the car. We filled up the car and then went back to the caravan for a quick lunch and to get ready to leave.
We left around 12:45pm and headed to Margaret River. We arrived at Glenbrook Campground at 1:30pm and we are currently the only ones here. The lovely owner showed us around and introduced us to his horses, donkey and wild kangaroos which all the mums have joeys in their pouches at the moment. Josh & Jason then collected fire wood ready for tonight’s fire.
We then drove to Hamelin Bay and sat admiring the water while we had some nibbles for afternoon tea. We then went for a walk to the lookout and then along the beach trying to find the eagle rays and stingrays that visit the shore. Luckily as we were walking back to the boat ramp we spotted an eagle ray which came right into the shore near Josh so he could pat it and a stingray which came in close but not close enough.
We then drove back to the campground and enjoyed looking at all the kangaroos and joeys. It was then time for the kids to build the campfire. They were so excited when Rog lit it. So we enjoyed eating our dinner in front of the campfire and the owner spoilt us by giving us a mystical fire pouch which you throw into the fire and it changes the colour of the flames. Our flames went blue, purple and green. It was so pretty but for some reason would photograph. The kids and I ended up sitting in front of the fire for ages.
Then it was time for showers and bed.
