Day 46 - Broome to Eighty Mile Beach (371km/5hrs)
We were up early and drove out to Gantheaume Point to admire the view and we were lucky enough to see our first whales for the trip breaching in front of us and tail slapping. It is such a beautiful spot and we were hoping to find a rock pool to swim in but the tide wasn’t high enough. We did see the concrete dinosaur foot prints.
We then quickly went to fill up the car and grab our last minute groceries. We got the caravan ready and left Broome at 10am.
The drive was pretty uneventful and we hardly saw any cars on the road. We filled the car at Sandfire and continued our drive to 80 Mile Beach where we arrived around 3pm.
We got a site right next to the sand dunes on some lovely grass. Normally we are camped on dirt!
We quickly set-up and had lunch then we went for a lovely walk on 80 mile beach. It was a very low tide of 1.44m so we had to walk a very long way to get to the water. It’s not a safe swimming beach so we only paddled in ankle deep water.
We collected lots of beautiful shells and saw lots of little creatures inc hermit crabs, blue crabs and others that I don’t know what they are called! Bronte found a beautiful star fish too.
We then ran into the same couple from Derby & Broome so we chatted to them for a while.
We watched the sunset from the viewing platform then went back to the caravan for dinner.
After 6.5 weeks on the road, today we clocked up 10,000km!
