Cape Keraudren - 80 Mile Beach
Luckily after being attacked by mosquitoes last night Rog killed them all before we went to bed so no bites during the night. We had a relaxing morning walking along the beach and collecting lots of shells at Cape Keraudren (it's pretty much just a beach). We left at 10am and drove the short 115kms to 80 Mile Beach Caravan Park arriving at 12pm. When we were about halfway into our drive we saw a Camel eating near the side of the road. Rog and I couldn't believe it and were so excited to see our first wild camel (as apparently there are a hundred thousand out there) but unfortunately we saw it too late for a photo or to stop so the kids could see it also. As we drove into 80 Mile Beach caravan park we also saw a wedged tail eagle sitting next to the road in a branch. We stopped to take pictures and it didn't fly away and just sat there happily posing!
When we arrived I put on two loads of washing and then we had lunch. We hung out the washing and then we headed to the beach. As soon as you walk over the sand dunes you are greeted with beautiful crystal blue and turquoise waters and it looks so inviting but you aren't allowed (or should i say it's not recommended) that you swim here due to sharks. It is such a shame as the water is so nice. We all just had a paddle in the very shallow ankle deep water and then we went for a walk along the beach collecting more shells (we have so many containers full of shells that I need to go through when the kids aren't around!!). Bronte threw a big tantrum on the beach so Rog bought her back to the caravan for a sleep whilst Josh & I continued collecting shells (luckily we only had two sand buckets as they both came back full).
The tides are big here and at low tide it's about 1 km from the sand dunes to the water. Lots of people 4WD on the beach but we didn't bother, we were happy to walk and apart from the shell collecting people fish. There isn't anything at 80 mile beach only a caravan park which just keeps expanding due to the popularity.
Rog was also able to wash the car today and it's so sparkly (it was a bit of effort getting rid of all the Pilbara red dirt!).
We lazed around the caravan doing jobs and then we went to the BBQ area for dinner and Rog cooked lamb steaks with potato and mushrooms (it was beautiful). We had a quick look at the beautiful sunset over the beach and then it was time for showers and quiet time.
The kids are becoming harder to get to sleep at night even though they are both exhausted by the end of the day. Bronte is also waking up a lot during the night now so fingers crossed that stops soon.
