One More Sleep
Well just one more sleep before we head West towards the far corner of Queensland. The last couple of months has been hectic as we have prepared for the toughest trip we have taken so far.
Last night Humpy turned up in my dreams - yes the feral camel from the far west. He did not have much to say - just looked at me intently - "you packed enough water son?"
I woke up calculator in hand and ran through the planned supplies for the hundredth time. Humpy was gone but my trepidation about the trip lingered on through the day.
Things we had on our last trip suddenly disappeared like a mirage as I tried to approach their whereabouts. Now where is that damn charger.
There are clothes still spread all over the bed - camera gear in the studio - drawing books and pencil cases - what to take, "you need to travel light!" Humpy chimes in.
OK, what to leave behind - so no large selection of lenses, take the small tripod - just one drawing pad and a few pencils. As soon as I start thinking of what to leave behind my mind starts adding to the list of what to take.
Humpy snorts and sneers - he says nothing his expression says "boy you got no chance."
I start thinking of ridiculous things I can leave behine, - no grand piano - no three story tent, no full set on Dickens, no make that Shakespeare he's been dead 400 years - I am still no closer to being ready and the warm glow of sunset lurks behind me.
Oh well enough day dreaming. Back to real packing or should I say leaving things behind.
