We took time out to try and get over the worst of our colds. We spent 36 hours holed up in a room at Austins Chuckwagon in Torrey dosing up on cold medication, trying to bring our temps down with cold towels and generally feeling sorry for ourselves.
Today although not fully recovered we are a lot better so we set off on our wanders. It's a bit of a gloomy day, mostly drizzly but with some patches of blue sky here and there.
Not far from Torrey is Capitol Reef National Park, more amazing multi-hued rock formations and some ancient petroglyphs.
Much of the landscapes here remind us of the old westerns; flat prairies leading to the dramatic mountains. Although beautiful it is kind of desolate, a fantastic place to pass through but why anyone would live here is beyond us.
Arches National Park, again so different to other areas we've been to recently. It's red, solid and amazing. The various arches throughout the park are impressive, most are accessible via a shortish walk. Pete tried for some good pics of the arches but there were far too many other tourists around at most of them.
At the end of the road there's a walk to a series of arches. It looked a bit more than I could easily do so Pete went off on his own and it was well worth it from what he said and going by the pics
