Last day here in the US and the plan is to take it pretty easy.
We checked out about 10.30 and slowly made our way via Laurel Canyon to see Scott at Unique Corals getting there a little after 12.
He's made some changes to his operation, it's always good to hear what others are doing. We left our esky full of travel food prep bits with him ready to collect next year.
The local Denny's was an easy lunch option, Cal club sandwich for me and the last big burger of this years trip for Pete lol
We then did a random drive along Topanga Canyon for no other reason than we could lol It leads down to the water at Topanga Beach on the Pacific Coast Hwy so from there we followed the coast for a time.
In Santa Monica a CHP was searching a car. Three young guys were sitting in the kerb under the watchful eyes of another CHP. On the roof of the car was a bong, we guessed their fun day out at the beach had just gone to pot; pun intended lol
We went quite a way around the bay's to Manhattan Beach. For the most part it was blue ocean on one side and homes, restaurants etc on the other. There are also some pretty ugly spots across from the beach, power plants, sewage works and possibly de-sal plants but for the most part it was a nice drive. We can't figure out why we've not gone that far before but for sure we would do it again.
The mileage on the car when we collected it over eight weeks ago was 631 miles. Once we'd refuelled we returned it at around 5.30pm with a reading of 12906; that means this year we've done 12275 miles or 19754.7 km!
The shuttle bus soon had us at the terminal, all went very smoothly and quite quickly and we made our way to the QANTAS lounge. It's pretty good; free wifi, free drinks of course, unlike Brisbane they pour the spirits but you can help yourself to wine, champagne etc. There's lots of really good food and our fave, shower facilities so we can freshen up before our flight. It's a great place to hang for five hours before a long haul flight.
