Happy birthday dad!
We dragged ourselves out of bed at 9.15 and had a leisurely breakfast as well as some research and booking of our next destinations. It takes so long!
Then we joined the free walking tour crowd. The temperature today has been more bearable, not impossibly hot like it would have been midday yesterday.
As usual with walking tours we learnt a lot about the city and a few myths and legends along the way. We saw cathedrals, palaces and the oldest restaurant in the world!
We walked around the food market which is amazing but also very expensive so we ended up in the supermarket place conveniently behind the market ready for the travellers who can only look at the food of the market. With our 39cent baguettes and fruit we made our way to el Parque de Madrid. A very big green park and led by the lake is full of hundreds of rowing boats bobbing along.
We sat by the water watching the boats and the turtles that kept making an appearance. After lazing in the sun until about 8pm we made our way back to the hostel only stopping at the supermarket for dinner: Spanish omlette, salad and nectarines for €2,37 each.
At 10.30 we joined the bar crawl of Madrid. The group was about 15 people from all different countries: Germany, Australia, Netherlands, USA, Spain, Chile and Brazil. I took the opportunity to practice my Portuguese and was happy with how much I remembered although I definitely threw a few Spanish words in when I didn't know the Portuguese. We had a fun night filled with sangria and dancing.

Caryn Sounds like a fun day. Well done for remembering your Portuguese - that's impressive xx
