I arrived in Santiago DC at 7.15- the coach was over an hour early. Luckily my hostel was not far away and there was someone awake to open the door for me! I slept on the sofa until 9.15 in the common room.
Before leaving for a walk around town I got talking to a German guy and a British guy. At about 11 I went out and saw the main attraction: the cathedral. I wasn't that impressed because the main side was covered in scaffolding (see picture). There were hundreds of pilgrims flocking to see the cathedral as it is where the Camino De Santiago ends (a long walk across the North of Spain). The historic centre was pretty interesting and the market too was good to look around.
After a cafe stop for some fresh orange juice and tomato bread I decided to find the cinema, planning to book a ticket for the evening. Just before getting there I saw a car try to overtake another one on a roundabout, he didn't leave enough room and caused a crash. It wasn't a bad crash, but it was horrible to see it unfold because I could tell what was going to happen. Quite a few people witnessed it, luckily everyone involved was ok.
The cinema was in a big shopping complex, so I couldn't resist a visit to the pet shop to see the bunnys, guinea pigs and hamsters! When I finally made it to the cinema I ended up booking a ticket for 4pm to see a film called Valerian- a sci fi film. It was ok but I mainly went to practice Spanish.
I got back to the hostel just before 7 and finally checked in. The two guys I met earlier plus a German couple were at the hostel. We sat outside in the garden and I learnt a new card game. We then migrated to a park close to the hostel which had a great sunset view point and continued the card game. Back at 11pm I finally made dinner - simple veggie pasta- but I was hungry so it tasted great.

Caryn Quite a mixed day! Witnessing a car crash must have been scary. Hope you understood and learnt from the Spanish film. Remember the new card game. You can teach us when you get home xx
Daf Shame for the pilgrims to turn up after walking squillions of miles only to find a scaffolds church!! You should have given a witness statement for the accident that would have practiced your technical Spanish Enjoy the remainder of your time in Santiago, you must be looking forward to Portugal now. Xx
