Soongies' Great Adventure
Today we drove from Clermont-Ferrand to Annemasse (a town in France that borders with Geneva). Calvin was still not feeling the best so Kate did the driving. We arrived at about 1:00 and we're greeted by our lovely Airbnb host. She told us to take bus 61 to a station and then catch a tram to get to Geneva. We walked to the bus stop to catch the 61 bus but then couldn't figure out which side of the road to catch it from so Kate asked a girl standing there in French. As we were talking to her the T1 bus arrived on the opposite side of the road - she said that was the one to catch. So we rushed to get on it not knowing where we were going! Luckily for Google maps we just kept checking it was going in the right direction and then we got off right at the Swiss border (when the bus started to turn in the wrong direction). Then we took the tram from there right into the centre of Geneva before walking to the tourist bureau so they could tell us what to see. It was pretty cold walking around and there wasn't that many sights to see. We walked to the United Nations headquarters but couldn't go inside. We then walked through the old town, via the flower clock, to the Reformation Wall. We had heard you need a special sticker for the car when driving in Switzerland so we went back to the tourist bureau to ask. The lovely lady told us that we do need a vignette and it is available at the Post Office (right next door!). CHF40 for a one year vignette - required for driving on Swiss highways. We were pretty freezing by this point and we decided it would be cheaper to go back into France and eat dinner than stay in Geneva so we took the tram and bus back to Annemasse. There wasn't much open but we managed to find a pizza place so we shared a vego pizza for €10 and then went to the supermarket to get a few extra bits and pieces to tie us over. Back at home, Calvin had packet miso soup and Kate had some cous cous (and Milka chocolate).
