Soongies' Great Adventure
It was a very early start this morning as they didn't know how long it would take to get from Arusha to Nairobi due to Nairobi's unpredictable and usually terrible traffic! Unfortunately for Andrew - who had quite a few too many drinks last night, early wake ups were not in his best interests.
After breakfast we sadly said goodbye to 3 of the people on our trip - Carlo, Amanda and Roxy - as they were flying to Zanzibar that day.
On the long drive back, we crossed the border from Tanzania back into Kenya. One of the officers was so excited that Kate's middle name was Naivasha - he was showing the computer screen to others in the office and he told her that she should get a Kenyan passport! Meanwhile the lady dealing with Calvin interrogated him about his past and future plans for Kenya - Flo said the lady was in such a bad mood she must have been on her period!
The traffic was actually pretty good for Nairobi standards so we reached the drop off point (the hotel where we started) at about 1pm. We had lunch there and then later an early dinner and hung out using the free WiFi until getting an Uber to the airport at about 6:30 pm. Just before reaching the airport we had to get out of the Uber and walk through security whilst our luggage stayed in the car (while the car got screened). Luckily we had done this before when the volunteer house driver took us to the airport to get our flight to Lamu otherwise I think we would have refused to get out as we would have thought the Uber driver was going to drive off with all our stuff! We were still very relieved when the Uber driver stopped to pick us up on the other side and the luggage was untouched!
The flight to Mombasa was delayed an hour. After a short 45 min flight we got into Mombasa quite late and then bargained with a taxi driver to take us to our hotel, ready for a good sleep (and a sleep in)!

kentishclan OK - this is getting disturbing. You weren't even wearing skirts? So you just like... dropped trow and whizzed in giant fluoro plastic beer mugs. WTF?
soongies These 'pee pee pans' were used in our tents at night (we were just modeling them in this picture). If we didn't buy these jugs we would have had to wake our tent partner up if we had to pee in the middle of the night to be our guard, otherwise an elephant / hyena / zebra / lion might have approached us / attacked us in the middle of the night! Best $1 ever spent!
