Woke up to a very beautiful day.. Not a cloud in the sky and nice and warm. Walked Jean to her choir event at 8am and then met up with Gary and Sunni as I walked back to the campsite. We decided to explore this little flea market that had set up in a park on our way. Most of the stuff was what you find at any flea market but we did find a vendor selling beautiful sweaters, heavy New Zealand wool with wind proof lining inside. Very well made and only $99 NZ which would be $84 cdn. Decided not to buy at this time. Gary, Sunni and I went to the Hells gate Thermal Park (so named by George Bernard Shaw who said he felt like he was viewing the gates of hell) it was a fascinating place with lots of boiling mud and lakes of boiling water all looking quite incongruous against the wonderfully green countryside. It was a good hours walk to go through the site and we stopped at the end to dip our feet in the hot mud for 20 minutes VERY soothing!! We had a quiet afternoon at the maggot relaxing and then met up with Jean for dinner. Finding a parking spot for the maggot was quite an exercise considering it is such a long vehicle. We attended a concert after that which was a massed choir from Aukland and Christchurch conducted by three different conductors. The high light of the evening was a quartet of four Australians called "The Idea of North" an a Capella group who were brilliant. Then back to the campground and trying to park the maggot in the dark. Not an easy task!!

les and joan ellenor Thanks for the wonderful accounts -- bringing back lots of memories. Joan and I met Jessica in Rotorua. We enjoyed the hobbit site. Years ago I got stuck on Mount Taranaki, did military manoevers at Waiouru. The choir is making sweet music, including "I dreamed of rain." Cheers Les and Joan
Megan I love the descriptions of geothermal activity. I hope you got a longer video of that boiling mud. Are you going to visit Hobbiton? I'm sure Gary thinks it's too cheesy.
