We were up early today so that Jean could go and dig herself a hole in Hot Water Beach at low tide. She said there were lots of young people there digging holes to take advantage of the hot water stream that flows just under the beach surface. The temp was 64c but she dug close to the ocean so that there was a cooling effect from the ocean water. I don't think she got totally immersed in the pool although her hair was wet. We then moved a couple of kilometers north to HaHei. This is a beautiful area with a couple of good hikes. After we booked in, we went for a hike to the Pa south of the beach. A Pa is a Maori fortification always constructed on the height of land. It is usually terraced so there were several levels of defense available to them. We had lunch and then went on a hike to Cathedral Cove. It was roughly an hour and fifteen minutes each way with some good climbing at each end. There were certainly a lot more people on the walk than the last time I did this walk. Probably because there is car access to a parking lot about half way along the old walk. We walked the entire walk. Virtually every person who went by was German. It is amazing how many Germans come to NZ. Well, it is happy hour. I am enjoying drinking NZ beer so I will indulge with the others.

Merrilee Buss I love hearing the sound of the surf! Thanks for adding those bits. What amazing beauty you are surrounded by. Blessings!
Joanne I'm usually reading magazines that are 2 months old so only being two days behind with the blog is good for me. ( today is Nov.3) You will find it hard to be so far from the sea when you come home after enjoying the wonderful ocean sights and sounds. Yesterday there were high winds on the coast and a BC ferry took out a dock on Mayne Island. No injuries and the crew acted quickly to save the boat from going aground. The Men's Club had a successful turkey dinner on Friday night followed by turkey shepard pie for lunch after church today . We are happily stuffed Canadian style! First snow on Mt. Ida today so winter is on its way.
