We got up early again and went to Waitomo Caves early so that we could get the better tour. We arrived right at 9am but managed to get on the first tour. As it turned out there was only one other person so we had a pretty personalized tour. The tour was quite fascinating looking at some of the stalactites which were 3-4 meters long and the being told that they grow at a rate of cm per 100 years. We also saw the glow worms - they seemed like thousands of stars in the sky. Then we continued on to New Plymouth to a beautiful campsite right on the waterfront. $92 for one night and we provide the camper!! We have an amazing view of Mt Taranaki. We are just going on a sea walk towards town so we can buy groceries. Just returned from our walk. It was very windy coming back. We will have fresh lamb for dinner. Looking forward to that! Our trip to New Plymouth wound it's way through a beautiful nature reserve with roads that were so windy you could almost see the back of the campervan. The route is obviously a commercial route because we passed many freight liners heading north. I pity them having to drive those steep windy roads all the time. Sitting here in the campervan listening to the waves pounding the shoreline. Total paradise. Jos, I was reading some of my prior blogs and noticed I had spelled many of the NZ names wrong. Sorry about that!
