Jean had 1/2 a day to attend her choral convention so we walked her to her session and then wandered around town, stopping for a coffee and goody in a small cafe. It is amazing how much variation there is on pricing. We passed one cafe which advertised a coffee and cookie for $16.00 while the place we stopped at was $8.50 for a mochacino and a large piece of orange cake. The end of Jean's convention featured a choir sing off between all the groups attending. My favorite was the Maori choir and the NZ Youth choir. I will try to add a recording to this post. We left Rotorua at about 1pm and it was only a 2 hour drive to Papamoa Beach which is just south of Tauranga. The site we are staying in is right on the beach and we have decided to stay here for 2 nights. We will walk along the miles of beach this evening and then tomorrow go and explore Mount Maunganui in Tauranga. Jean and Sunni have just returned from shopping and are down looking at the beach.

Jos Papamoa is a beautiful spot to stay. I have a nephew and cousin living there. While in Mt Maunganui try the hot water pools and do climb the Mount! We stayed in a motel on the port side beach. The water taxi ride from the wharf to downtown Tauranga is worthwhile. My best NZ buddy,Kate Mountfort, lives in Tauranga.
