Night train was amazing to Bangkok. Absolutely loved it, so much better than flying. Arrived at the train station and was really easy to know which platform to go to. Train was already there so got straight on and found our seats and it left on time at 5pm.
Had two lovely thai men opposite us both. One was a young student and the other as an older man. The older man was so friendly and talking to us about thai culture and his views on the danger on Thailand. He spoke about when they go to London they get warmed about keeping hold of their bag because of pick pocketers.
Got to watch the sun set from the train while traveling through some pretty spectacular countryside. Thailand really is a beautiful place and I've kinda fell in love with it, which is shocking as I was so scared about coming here.
The two thai men chatted away most of the evening, which was very sweet, while me and Sarah got some dinner and chilled out.
They came round about 7:30pm to turn our seats into bunk beds and we got ready for bed. Fell asleep no problem, and had a very comfortable nights sleep. Woke up at 5am when the guards came round saying good morning. Little bit earlier than I was hoping but still. Arrived in Bangkok at 7am and found ourselves a tuk tuk. After a lovely girl at a cafe told us not to pay any more than 100baht we were able to haggle to driver down from 150. We are getting good at this.
Hostel is very nice, another one we picked while still at home. Chern Hoestel. Popped out to a shopping hall while we waiting for Chelsea's plans from Hong Kong to get in. Sarah has smashed her phone so needed to get that fixed and needed to top up on a few things, so was a useful trip. Also found that even with the traffic, meter taxis are the way to go.
Back to the hostel and shorty after Chelsea arrived, so we are a three again :).
After lots of catching up about our week, we went out to Koh San Road. Wasn't as busy as I pictured, well Bangkok in generally isn't as busy as I thought, and quite hassle free really. Went for food and sorted out our transport down to our next place, another night train. Then we had one drink in a bar, before going really crazy for the night and heading to the cinema, haha. Went to go and see the new Hunger Games, which was very good. Just before the film came on, everyone had to stand to show respect to the king while we watched a video about him. That was a new experience. Apparently if you don't do it, you get kicked out the film.
I'm coming back to Bangkok in a few weeks, so leaving sight seeing till then. So today I've done some much needed shopping. Rotating a small selection of clothes for nearly three months is not the one. So went to a few shopping halls. All of which were amazing, so many quirky tea shops. Went for a posh little twinnings tea shop for a fantastic pot of tea. Had a girl moment when they started playing Christmas songs and I got a little teary.
We were having such a blast we totally lost track of time so at 4pm (trains at 5:30pm) we thought it was best we headed back to the hostel to get our bags.
Well rush hour Bangkok is something I've never seen before in my life, red lights, road markings and even sides of roads mean nothing. Told the tuk tuk driver we were running a little late and was in a rush to get our train. Well my god, he must have been a F1 driver in a former life. Weaving in and out of the traffic, we were all a little scared but knew we couldn't miss this train. Near the hostel, we were at stand still, so I got out, ran to the hostel and started piling the bags outside. When the tuk tuk finally made it round, we threw all our bags in and raced our way to the train station. Three of us plus three massive backpacks, it was a squeeze.
Arrived at the train station at 5pm (loads of time) and all started clapping. Not sure if we were clapping his driving skills, or the fact we were still alive.
About to get the night train now, onto the next stop, full moon party!!!!
