So once again we had a hassle free short ferry ride over the Koh Phi Phi ( or Phi Phi Islands/ Koh Pi Pi/ Koh Phi Phi Don, learnt it can be spelt a number of ways, but I'm sticking with Koh Phi Phi!).
Heard lots of different opinions about the place, so tried to go fairly open minded. First impressions were good, pulling up to the island it was hard not to be impressed by the limestone rock structures surrounding the place. The port was busy with longtail boats and once through and onto the main road it looked really cute.
The island is so small you just walked everywhere, I only seen a handful of scooters the whole time we were there.
In search for a place to stay we made our way to the other side of the beach and walked along it till we settled on a place called Apache Beach House.
Back in dorms now, fairly standard, but beds are extremely uncomfortable.
First night there we went out to dinner and took a look at the night life. Which is pretty much incredible, right up my street. Beach is lined with a few little bars, a few main bars and then a couple of chill out bars. The atmosphere from the music and lights is so amazing you can for sure go out sober and have an amazing night.
So our first full day here was on 17th, and we decided to do a half day boat trip called 3 in 1 tour, which was really good. Helped by the fact our your guide was drop dead gorgeous. We went to monkey beach (tiny beach full of monkeys - average), went swimming in a cool beautiful water spot, encased by huge limestone rocks. Then into Maya Beach, which is where the film The Beach was filmed. Felt that little bit closer the Leonardo Dicaprio. Started to rain and despite the crowds was still stunning and just like the film. Then it was onto a little bit of cliff jumping. By this time the sea had got a little rough, and in England there would be no way we would have been allowed to jump off the 8ft rocks. However, as we were told "there's no health and safety here hey" we proceeded to climb up the rocks. First jump hurt like hell as I landed on my ass, but the second jump was so much fun. Watched the sunset before pulling over in a little spot till in went dark and went swimming in the plankton. There wasn't loads but watching blue little tinkles glow when you moved your hands was pretty cool.
That night we decided to have a drink. And well buckets of strawberry daquiri for £3 certainly did the trick. Great night, everyone was so sociable. Played jenga and flip cup and danced the night away to amazing music.
There's not really much to do in the day, the beach is ok, the views are stunning. But the sea is so dirty, I couldn't even bare to go in it. I walked passed some pretty questionable items haha. Tried to go to the viewpoint which is meant to be amazing, but it rain every afternoon. Good weather for shopping and drinking tea.
Every night each of the bars put on a spectacular fire show. The kind where your mouth is open the whole time. Loved them. From that they would turn into dance floors starting with limbo contests. So much fun and amazing to see such a mix of people socialising without even talking. The locals were all getting involved and happy to have a laugh with everyone. They were so good at limbo too and would even carry people on their knees through the lowest one. And yes I had a go haha.
So we were meant to be leaving today but poor Sarah has food poisoning again so moved into a triple room (which we all regret not doing from the beginning) and staying one more night which I'm happy with. Another night of dancing.
Also had to buy yet another pair of sunglasses. Now on pair number 4!
