As u can probably imagine the 22 hour bus to cusco from Lima was pretty vile despite the fact we had a few films on show, with one of them even being in English! The bus wasn't particularly uncomfortable but I guess even sitting in a laz-e-boy for that long will make your arse go to sleep. We arrived in cusco in the morning time and went with the first hostel guy we found, just a few minutes down the road, it was clean, we had our own room and an en suite shower. We did the usual thing of dumping the bags and wondering into town. Their were hundreds of hustling tour agencies so we wouldn't have a problem sorting our tour out but a bit knackered we decided to do that the next day. A bit of eating and some wondering soon took us to the evening and we decided to catch an early night, fresh for some tour bargaining. Next day we headed with our game faces on. Even though we had already paid a $200 deposit witha company online we still had $350 to pay so we wanted to see if we could still save, despite the deposit we had already paid. The cheapest we found was $190 all in which also included wonhapicchu, the mountain overlooking machu pichu. Armed with this price we went to the tour agency we had already booked with. As we'd thought there was no chance of getting our deposit back so we canceled with them and booked up the $180 tour. They gave us some s*** about nicer food, didn't carry as much b******s but it certainly didn't warrant the extra cash. Being Friday night and chuffed we'd sorted our tour (although we'd lost $200 we thought of it more like we'd saved $170) we decided to get some pre drink in before having a night out in wilderover. In there we saw the guys that Dyson had been out with in Lima (when I was dead after my birthday) and joined them for the night. Next morning I didn't actually feel that bad, Dyson woke up before me and went to mcdonalds. He woke me up by throwing a mcmuffin in my face. Too excited I instantly ate it and decided it'd been too long since I had one so I had to go and get another one. When I got there I saw they did pancakes so got both with one coffee and an orange juice. I ate both meals and realised I didnt have milk. When I went to ask I was told I had to pay and as I was paying on card I thought I may aswell get another mcmuffin. By the time I got back to the hostel the 3 mcmuffins, portion of pancakes, coffee and orange juice sloshing around in my stomach had taken effect. It actually brought on my hangover. Saturday was now a right off. On Sunday we went out and sorted out all our rental gear for our trek. As I said there were tons of agencies so going round these took up most of the day. The following day we were getting abit bored of cusco and were essentially just waiting to go on our trek. We ended up going for a few drinks, which ended up having a few rum's and so fourth. This actually turned out to be a good thing as the late night on Monday meant I was tired on Tuesday and would get to sleep early for the early start on wednesday, every cloud ey! On the tuesday some Israelis moved into out room which wasn't a good thing after the s*** we'd had in Lima but what ya gunna do. In the evening we waited until 7pm for our tour guide on the trek to come and brief us, he never showed, the Israelis were having a brief which was a good thing as it meant they would have to get an early night. By 8 he still hadn't showed so we thought f*** it and went to bed. Nothing much to write home about in cusco but as we always thought it was always gunna just be a prep stop off for machu picchu.
