We arrive at the ica bus stop at around 18.30 and grab a taxi to huacachina. Our taxi driver is a bit of a lad and sells us a wine tour on the way to our hostel. When we get to huacachina it's really nice. It's like they found an oasis in the middle of the desert and built a small town around the oasis. The town is surrounded by huge sand dunes as well making the whole town enclosed. It's dark by the time we get there and we have a wonder. We go into a bar and get a drink. The bartender comes over with a free shot which I can't turn down. Looks like the detox is over. He says that it won't get busy until midnight as everyone goes on the s***faced tour until then. We enquire about it and it's basically a wine tour with a free bar. It only costs a tenner so we sign up... The detox really is over now. We get changed and go back to the bar and wait to get picked up for by a bus. When we get on our tour guide is so unbelievably wrecked. Someones also given an annoying girl a microphone which makes the 10 minute journey feel like an hour. When we get there we go straight into the winery and start getting free drinks. They also make pisco which is a grape based 40% shot. He pours mine out and I shot it, he tells me I have to wait for everyone and pours me another. Seeing an opportunity to get more free drink I shot it again and once again get refilled. I do this a couple of times before I start to feel sick. The annoying girl does it and starts crying because of the strength. I call her MC crybaby which I find hilarious, she doesn't. Everytime she walks past me or near me during that night I sing 'cry me river'. This doesn't get boring for me and in fact get funnier the more drunk I get. We end up in the bar with free wine and free pisco. It turns messy! We go back to the bar after the winery and have a few more drinks. By this time the pisco has well and truly done it's job and it's time to go to bed. Getting on the top bunk is too much of an effort and I end up sleeping on the couch in the common room. I wake up next day about midday feeling rough. We have sandboarding at four and just chill out by the pool in another hotel until then. It's so chilling but at half three we head back to the hostel and get ready for sandboarding. The guy picks us up and takes us into the desert. Raggin it over all the sand dunes is fun in itself. We finally stop after 20 minutes of sand buggying. The first go at sandboarding I go down on my stomach. The next time I have a go on my feet. Instead of a controlled zig zag down the slope I go straight down. Picking up way too much speed it's only a matter of time before I tumble over. I do, BAD! I repeat this process about 3 times before I get to the bottom. The last stack I smash my head off the sand which gives me a massive headache. We go to another dune and the people on their stomach go down on a smaller dune than the standers. I decide to give standing another go and walk to the top of the dune and wait for a everyone to go down. When I finally go the Velcro on my board isn't strong enough. I tell the guides this and that I'm gunna go down on my stomach. They tell me to come down to the lower dune, I refuse and quickly get on my stomach and nudge myself over the tip. Too late now. I pick up some intense speed before finally stacking out at the bottom. We have another couple of goes each before going to the top of the big dune and watching the sunset. We then head back and grab some food from a shack before hitting the hay early. As I went to sleep so early I wake up at about 7am and grab some breakfast from the bar. Around 10ish we head next door and chill by the pool all day. It's weird, we spend about 6 hours there and I don't get bored at all. It's actually quite nice just chilling on a sun lounger all day just jumping in the pool when u get hot. At around half four we decide to get out and climb the massive sand dune and get up there for sunset. As we get closet to the sand dune we realise just how massive it is. It's absolutely knackering to climb it. Every step u take your foot slides down in the sand making it take twice as long as if it was solid. I finally make it to the top in about 20 minutes absolutely puffed out. It's worth it thou as the view is amazing and we get some wicked snaps. We then run down, I obviously try to take Dyson out with a spear tackle at every opportunity. Once at the bottom we grab some dinner and chill in the hostel in the evening again grabbing an early night. The next morning is an exact repeat of the previous day. We're enjoying the pool vibe so much that we try to delay our bus to the next day. We watch the champions league semifinal and watch Chelsea get through to the final. We then go to the bus station and make our way onto paracas without a hostel booked.
