Day 51 Phuket – KO Phangan
Bit of a squeeze on the minibus but we are finally heading out of Phuket – yaaaayyyy! We love banana shakes, had breakfast at On On café. French guys on mini bus had a big argument and we had to stop so one of them could get out and make his own way-bizarre! Driver drove really fast, and the journey was amazingly bumpy. We sorted out our accommodation on one of our stops-brilliant. We then caught a coach, and a bus to KO Phangan. The boat journey was really rough and took much longer than expected. We were picked up by a guy called Boss and taken to our resort. Our bungalow is the cheapest but still really nice.
Day 52
Woke up and had our favourite breakfast of muesli, fruit salads and yoghurt. We spent the day by our infinity pool, which was so relaxing. This was helped along by a couple of Changs and new books to read. Rog went for a walk which turned out to be a real mission. I got bitten on my forehead by a mosquito-nice and really feel like I’ve broken my nose. Rog also proceeded to fall through the decking and cause a massive hole. Think he quite hurt his foot though.
Day 53
We were unable to rent a scooter from our place, so got one from the hotel next door-dragon hut. KO Phangan is really hilly, and at one point we didn’t think we would make it up the hill! Weather was much hotter than yesterday, but we needed to buy each other Xmas presents, so no chance to top up our tans. We stopped at Haad Thong Sala first, and then onto Haad Rin, which is where the full moon party’s are.
The day got hotter and hotter, but we still plodded on. After grabbing a drink, we headed back to Thong Sala as Haad Rin didn’t have much to offer. Rog managed to buy my present easily and quickly, however I felt the pressure due to his difficulty to please. This gave Rog more time to sample the delicacies of the local vendors, whilst he waited. His favourite being chicken on a stick with chili sauce!! Loser!
After much deliberation Emma found 1 small present, so on the way back to our resort I made Rog stop off. We spent the rest of Christmas Eve at our resort and got slowly but surely pissed.
Day 54
Christmas Day….. Yaaaayyyy! Woke up with a hangover-tradition! Treated ourselves to a fry up, then Rog managed to break my camera, think that’s number 3! The day was spent around the pool, which was relaxing, then we treated ourselves to a Thai massage on the beach- this was amazing. Spent a lot of the evening working out how to call home- no land line or mobile, so we created a skype account! Success after 2 hours and we both got to ring home, which was brilliant! Sadly due to little money and sore heads we had an early night.
Day 55
Boxing Day. Feeling a lot better today, we just hung around by the pool, and spent the day in the resort.
Day 56
We walked to Haad Salad, which is the beach next door. There was a really beautiful view onto the beach. Had breakfast here, and stayed on the beach all day. Stayed up until 3am, we are crazy! Drank Sangsom and coke. Really really good night, lots of fun!
Day 57
By the pool all day, not the greatest weather but still nice and warm. Rog loves Dragon Hut and is constantly up there. We changed our beer choice to Leo and Singha; think the Chang is way to strong.
Day 58
We headed back to Haad Salad for the day just chilling on the beach. We had breakfast and lunch in Cookies restaurant. We spent the evening playing cards, ring of fire and a******* card game. Tal, one of the guys ended up with the name Toilet Roll head! Very funny!
Day 59
We didn’t get out of bed until 3…. heavy hangover. Rog managed to loose a flip-flop. What was left of the day was spent by the pool. We were hungry for much of the day, and went o our new favourite restaurant (cookies) with everyone and ordered lots of food.
Day 60
New Years Eve. We went to cookies for breakfast after searching for a scooter for an hour, no such luck i'm afraid!! We then walked to Haad Yao from Haad Salad, so bloody hot, but a good walk! No bikes here either, decided to give up. Rog bought new flip flops. Haad Yao is quite a nice beach although very busy. We bought some body paint and headed back to Haad Salad- our fav beach. Rog sunbathed on the beach and hunted for clothes to wear for the full moon party! Went to cookies for lunch, Rog got bitten 10 times on the way home; the mosquito’s were just following him.
Taxi picked us up at 9pm to take us to the full moon party. I drew KO Phangan on Rogers back, he drew a sunset on mine- we’re so cool!!!
FULL MOON PARTY- AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once out of the Taxi everyone applied their finishing touches to their body paint designs (smudges). We bought our very first buckets and headed to the beach with everybody. We didn’t move to far when once on the beach, which was just as well as we had the best spot for the dangerous fireworks, and meeting so many people. The fireworks were amazing, despite literally exploding just over our heads. Rog through a sparkle shower and burnt his head! Danced loads, and met loads of random people including a really nice couple from Bali, and a Japanese guy, who just wore blue why-fronts. Rog proceeded to have a dance-off against him, although I don’t think the Japanese guy realized. Rog was pulling out his usual smooth moves…hilarious! We had 2 more buckets, and that’s all we needed, extremely drunk. We had Chicken burgers and a mountain of onion rings for the way home- gross but nice. Co-incidentally, out of all the taxi’s we could’ve jumped into, ours had lots of people going back to our resort. There were a lot of heavy heads, everyone looked smashed and a guy called Eric just hung onto the back of the pick-up the whole way back. I lost my bracelet, the buckets are lethal.
We arrived home at 6am. The most amazing night and the best New Years Eve ever... Speechless!!
Day 61
New years day, hangover central, woke up at 11! We slept some more and eventually emerged at 2pm and had breakfast. Swam in the sea and lounged by the pool, don’t think anything will cure our hang over. Becky thought she had lost her camera, but thankfully Neil had it. Selfishly we were more worried about the photos from new years than the camera-lol. Said goodbye to Neil, Matt and Mel from Canada, then early to bed, so shattered, and lots of mosquito’s again, annoying.
