Day 120 Luang Prabang – Chiang Rai
A lazy start and then we checked out of our guesthouse. We had a baguette again for breaki. We sat for about an hour talking to another couple, talking about experiences through India, they were both really nice and gave us an accommodation for Chiang Rai. We sat in a nice bar for a while and then went to a book shop, which was an absolute rip-off. We headed back to our guesthouse for our pick-up via Tuk- Tuk to the bus station. The bus was really crap with absolutely no leg room, although we were able to put on our DVD of Good Morning Vietnam, which was a little bonus, however cloth ears over there struggled to hear. There was a miserable Monk on the bus who complained about his leg room, despite having two seats! Wahooo,13 hours to go.
Day 121
We are still on the bus, and I am desperate for the toilet. The miserable Monk has kicked off again- he was hungry and wanted the bus to stop so he could eat, fortunately for me, the driver didn’t stop.
We got to Huay Xai at 9am- 2 hours late. We caught a Tuk- Tuk to take us to the border crossing. The people at the crossing were really helpful. The border crossing consisted of a three minute Long tail boat journey across the Mekong River. Once in Thailand, we got a lift on a pick up truck to the bus station, for the bus to Chiang Rai, we made the 11am bus by 5 minutes. The bus conductor was really nice. I hit my head three times on the metal window frame, doing the embarrassing falling asleep thing.
Once in Chiang Rai we got a Tuk- Tuk and checked ourselves into a wicked hotel, called the Red Rose. We had a Thai boxing themed room, so so cool, clean and tidy, it was just what we needed after a 17 hour journey.
We had a disgusting lunch which made us both feel a bit queasy, by the evening we both felt the full force of the meal. Back at the hotel we chilled out in front of the box. Emma fell asleep half way through Coming to America, classic film, classic Emma.
