Day 124 Chiang Mai- Pai
We checked out of our GH, at just gone 9am, to arrange our transportation to Pai. We got a local bus at 10.30 am, and the journey was about 3 ½ hours long, and took in some of Thailand’s better and more beautiful scenery. However the landscape views, were at the cost of some seriously winding and hilly roads. We pulled into Pai at about 1.30 pm and grabbing a local map we went in search for a GH. Annoyingly our decision was made on my toilet desperation.
After grabbing something to eat from a hippy filled café, we slept off a lot of the afternoon, as to many bus journeys have taken their toll. Our bungalow isn’t bad, and has a hammock outside which is really relaxing. Pai is what we had hoped Chiang Mai to have been like. We spent the evening chilling out amongst the bars, restaurants and market, that make up the streets of Pai, it’s like one big festival. The evening definitely cemented our decision to stay in Pai until we have to go to Bangkok.
Day 125
I still have an upset stomach and the walk to Fluid swimming pool was a close call. Fluid was really relaxing; I did some weights whilst Em read her book. When we got back to pour bungalow we didn’t do a lot as we were both still ill.
Day 126
We had a lie in, and then we had breakfast, Fruit salad and yoghurt- yum! We are both still feeling ill, so we spent the day doing nothing. I phoned Mum and Dad on skype and also got to see granny, Louise and Charlie, this made my day. We then phoned Rog’s parents, who teased us with glasses of wine and stories of tasty food!!
We ate out in the evening, and for the first time since knowing Rog, he hardly touched what he ordered, due to feeling so ill.
Day 127
We had breakfast, beans on toast amazing. We picked up our motor bike and went on the tourist trail. Firstly we went to the hot springs, but got cheap and decided not to go in. We went to Pai canyon, where we had a beautiful view of the area, albeit very dry. Roger’s vertigo kicked in, woosy, so we got back on the bike and went through the winding dusty roads to a waterfall. Sadly due to a lack of water, it wasn’t as magnificent as it could’ve been, but I still loved it. We got lost heading for our second waterfall, but after some swift navigation from me, we eventually found it. This was much much better than the last one, and Rog enjoyed climbing around on it, even though it was really dangerous to climb up, he thought his days were numbered when he got stuck, it was quite funny. Up on the waterfall there were people doing Kamikaze jumps into the plunge pool. Kamikaze as it was only 4ft deep.
I phoned Katie whilst Rog bought us some street French fries from a sweet little lady.
We had a good evening and walked around the market.
Day 128
Still with the bike, we took a trip to the hot springs that were recommended too us by the security guard from yesterday. The hot springs were fascinating to see and really smelly from the sulphur, but perhaps not worth the winding 30km journey to get there, however we did get the opportunity to experience some of Thailand’s unknown landscape, and off the tourist trail. On the way back we stopped off at the roadside to buy some drinks, and were offered dome of Emma’s favourite fruit- Jackfruit for free.
On the way to fluid we stopped off to look at some Elephants, that were gorgeous, Emma thinks they smiled at her. We spent the remainder of the afternoon at fluid, very relaxing.
Day 129
We spent a lot of the day at fluid; I used their crummy gym again, whilst Emma spent most of the day in the sun. We both had really tasty lunches, and felt thoroughly relaxed. In the evening we decided to buy all those things we had been checking out over the last few days in the market. Dinner was a real disappointment, unless of course you’d like Salmonella poisoning. I also tried some local delicacies which unfortunately wasn’t that great.
With all those things we had bought, we treated ourselves also to a few drinks in a bar with live music, which was pretty good.
