Day 122 Chiang Rai- Chiang Mai
Having discussed that we might stay one more night in Chiang Rai due to Emma’s stomach problems, she decided to change her mind and be a big brave shoulder, and take the three hour bus journey to Chiang Mai. Once there we looked around for ages for a GH, eventually settling at Chinda GH. For lunch, all Emma could stomach was chips (how convenient), and I had Phad Thai, maybe a mistake. Chiang Mai is a fairly quiet city and quite pretty really. As Em wasn’t feeling to well still, we spent much of the afternoon in our GH. Having spent so long in our room, we decided to skip the night market, and have some comfort food at Piggy’s fish and chip shop, not very Thai but who cares. Em really enjoyed her jacket potato, cheese and beans.
Day 123
We had an absolutely massive fruit, yoghurt and muesli breakfast, which set us up nicely for our walk around the town, taking in its sights and sounds and some of its more prestigious Wats. We did some research into some of the local 2/3 day treks. We ended up deciding on heading to Pai before embarking on any treks. Another lazy afternoon back at the GH, and then had dinner where we had breakfast, this was really nice. We had really spicy curries and got chatting to a nice Irish couple who worked around SE Asia as a band. We went to bed and watched Entrapment, unbelievably Em has never seen it, and stayed awake until the end.
