Today we took the bus to Castle Howard, an 18th century manor house and estate about an hour ride north of York. The bus took us through the narrow, winding country roads of North Yorkshire. We had a great time touring the manor house (145 rooms!!! But we only saw handful). The rooms were filled with priceless art, Roman sculptures, and beautiful furnishings. One of the rooms was dedicated to all the films and TV shows that were filmed there (like Bridgerton!). The ornate chapel was my favorite part of the house.
Once outside we spent a couple of hours exploring the grounds. They had a play area for the kids and place to get some food. We hung out there for a bit and then checked out the various temples and gardens that surrounded the manor house.
We caught the last bus back to York at 4:45 pm.
Once back in York we got dinner at the outdoor food court thing called Spark. We could only order on our phone and we had to order at each different restaurant separately. Needless to say it got a little complicated with 11 people ordering different things. The food arrived and it was all good in the end.
We ended the night getting dessert at McDonald’s. It was quick and cheap.
Tomorrow: more museums in York.
