Ellie stayed at her place last night and the three of us slept in and tried to make up for all the sleep we missed. I went for a run south along the Ouse river (pronounced “oooze,” it is the main river that runs through York). It was a nice and picturesque run. I got back to flat and Luke and I set out for pastries and coffee and explored a little more of York.
Once we were all ready we took the bus over to Ellie’s house and hung out there. We got to meet some of her roommates and and met Timmy the dog. Amy stayed with Ellie while Luke and I took the bus to the York City Football Club stadium just outside of York.
We all finally met up in the afternoon and got some pictures of Ellie in front King’s Manor, the 16th home of the archaeology department, and then headed over to the University for graduation. It was hot today. Being from Minnesota we were used to it, but the Brits are not. Tomorrow they are stopping much of the train travel in the country. Thankfully they gave us water bottles at graduation and the hall was (kind of) air conditioned. It was an nice ceremony and it was so fun to see Ellie in her gown. After the ceremony there was a reception with finger food and champagne. We took a lot of photos and then had to wait 45 MInutes to catch the bus back to the city centre.
We continued to wait and bus never showed up. A kind Uber gave us a ride back to the city even though we were not able to use the app. We gave him £10 cash. We had dinner reservations at 8:00 and surprisingly made it on time. We had a nice dinner at at tapas place with Ellie’s girlfriend, Sian. The food was good, but the service was slow.
Tomorrow: heatmageddon!
