The rest of the family (my parents, sister, and her four boys) arrived last night, a day earlier than expected. They had to rearrange their travel plans due to the country shutting down today because of the hot weather. Train travel and some restaurants and shops are closed today.
This morning Amy, Ellie, and Luke went to a climbing gym with Ellie’s friends. I went for a run and then met up with the rest of my family at their hotel. My aunt Elise and Uncle Les also happened to be in York as well. While my parents, aunt, and uncle drove, the rest of us met up with Amy, Ellie, and Luke and took a bus to Cawood, a small village south of York where some of our ancestors emigrated from. We had a nice (HOT!!) time walking around and exploring. We walked around Cawood castle and it’s surrounding fields and then met up with Margaret Brearley (the town historian) and hung out at her place. We found respite from the heat in the old village church which was nice and cool.
We took the bus back to York and were met with 106 degree heat. We spent a good part of the afternoon at my parents hotel as it had air conditioning.
Ellie is a great tour guide. She gave me, my dad, aunt, and uncle a great tour of York’s highlights right before dinner.
We finished the day by finding a restaurant that served decent food, could accommodate 13 people, and was outside.
Tomorrow: more of York!
