What a long day!!!! Our brekky down in the restaurant was included in the tariff which was nice, and when we awoke we could see the QE arriving at her berth. They were the only 2 good things about our room, oh, and that we had a 12 noon checkout.
We just packed and waited and waited and waited....... After we checked out we sat in the lobby for 30 minutes or so, and then ordered a taxi. The taxi driver was really pleased we were going to the QE because there were 3 or 4 ships in. QM2 was in the wrong berth and the traffic was really chaotic - 10 minute trips were taking 1 hour.
We arrived dockside in about 5 minutes and the taxi driver handed our luggage over to a waiting porter while we went and queued for check-in, followed by security, and the photographer, then we were aboard!!! We found our stateroom pretty promptly, with its bottle of Pol Acker waiting for us. We unpacked and then had an iced coffee in the Cafe Carinthia, followed by a late lunch at the Lido, before having to gather our life jackets for our 4pm safety muster in the theatre.
We continued exploring and were up in the spa area after 5pm when the Captain announced that a huge storm with extreme conditions was heading our way. This would make the seas huge and we would minimize our conditions by motoring very slowly in the English Channel for a much longer time, and we would miss out on our first port of call - Malaga.
By then we had moved away from the dock so we returned to our stateroom and opened our champagne to drink on our balcony as we sailed down the Solent, passing by the QM2 with great cheers and music, and tooting of horns. She then followed us out.
Dinner was up to the usual Cunard standards - smoked salmon terrine, mango spring roll, Cheddar crusted roast pork, lemon sole, apple strudel and cheese platter!!!
I stopped keeping my travel diary at this point, so I've used the descriptions of our land content tours to jog my memory and continue the narrative of our trip. It's a pity the little map only does distances by straight lines - you can't turn it into a ship so it only goes on water!!!
It is good to be back on board!!!
