Today we headed to the Ma'alaea Port to board a catamaran for snorkeling. The winds were strong so the captain needed to head for a sheltered spot. We anchored at the "Coral Gardens" which had great fish. The catamaran also had a glass bottom for viewing of fish which was great for the kids! Micah did a great job of snorkeling!

Melissa and family arrived last night and we spent this first day at the Kaanapali beach. Micah and Sophia loved surfing the waves and Melissa enjoyed snorkeling Black Rock. The weather was beautiful! Dan spent the day biking up Mount Haleakala climbing to 10,000 feet. He was successful in completing his climb in spite of pouring rain and cold temps.

Today we headed to see the Southeast Maui coast. We had taken the road to Hana and returned the same route previously so today we traveled the other direction. This road took us upcountry and then around the south coast. Parts of the road are unpaved and narrow but a very unique coast with lava landscape. Randy was very interested to get to Kipahulu as this is where Charles Lindbergh wanted to be buried and felt it was some of the most beautiful countryside. ...

Today was Tunny and Mark's last day before heading home. Maui had significant wind so we headed up the North coast to see the surf crashing onto the coast. We were so thrilled to come upon a surf competition at Honolua Bay. We started our day with a road trip to see the 'Iao Valley near Wailuku. It is a peaceful, beautiful valley. The valley stream is lovely, and there were short trails looping around the bottom. The Iao Needle is a prominent point sticking up from the valley. This valley is what remains of the central caldera of the West Maui volcano.
