We spent our day driving upcountry and up Mount Haleakala. It was quite a contrast to spending days at the beach and we had a good day for it with nice weather. (Unlike the day Dan biked up). The weather and the Terrain are so unusual for Hawaii that Sophia fell asleep on the beginning of the trip and woke when we reached the top and her first comment was.."why did we leave Hawaii?"
We had our packed lunch at the summit and enjoyed the view before the clouds and fog moved in.
On our trip back to Lahiana we also stopped at the Iao valley which is very peaceful and beautiful. Took a short hike to see the Iao needle and waterfalls and streams.
It was a fun day and change of pace!
