Today we are in the Inside Passage crusing. The views are absolutely breath taking! We enjoyed our balcony rooms with sightings of whales and views that pictures cannot capture. Today we are in the charming rustic Alaskan Town of Ketchikan. Fishing has long been the bread and butter of this town with the first cannery opened back in 1886. There is a great collection of carved totem poles. We decided to tour the city with a Ketchikan Duck Tour. The marine wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park is snow-capped mountains, coastal beaches, deep fjords, rivers and lakes and glaciers. We are in the native village of Hoonah and part of the history here is the salmon cannery. We were tendered into this port and had a very exciting day. Historic Skagway allows you to revisit the Gold Rush Era. Gold was discovered in the Klondike region and in 1898 the rush was on. Some of the stores and saloons are authentic in Skagway's historic downtown. We really enjoyed this town and it was a great surprise to walk down the streets and realize it wasn't that long ago that this was a booming town with the gold rush. We arrived in Juneau this morning. The city is right at the port which makes it very easy to get around town. Back in 1880, gold nuggets were discovered here and within weeks prospectors staked a settlement site. The gold rush was on and the town of Juneau was born.
