Today we rented a car and drove around the island. The East and North coasts are beautiful with amazing beaches and huge rolling waves. The surfers are absolutely crazy to be out in these waves. Watching them was a highlight of the day. We stopped at a Macadamia Nut farm and sampled many varieties as well as the wonderful Kona coffee. We spent a full day at the Pearl Harbor memorial. We saw the USS Arizona, the USS Missouri and the Bowfin Sub. Randy loves this history. We had seen the Arizona memorial before but not the Missouri which was quite impressive to stand where the Japanese surrender was signed. The USS Arizona is still bubbling and leaking oil after over 70 years. They predict it will continue until 2030. It's very chilling to imagine what those 2 hours were like on December 7th...

We arrived in Honolulu last evening and experienced a 130 degree temp difference from MN if you consider the windchill. It was great to arrive here!! We were here 43 years ago when Randy was on R&R. It has changed considerably but we are surprised at how many things are also familiar.
