Now heading to Wellington too early simply due to rain we had to stay for two nights which we weren't really bothered for. It seems a nice, small city, and was surprised to find its the capital (suppose we should probably know these things)!
As we arrived the wind was fierce,Whitby shot to mind! The place we'd planned to stay at no longer existed and our plans for parking became very difficult. We we forced to drive around the city in search of somewhere to stay, we used the Lonely Planet for the first time in New Zealand and found a decent hostel with free weekend parking walking distance to the CBD.
We were only sharing the room with two Swiss girls for a change, beats 12 others! It was mid-afternoon before we managed to walk into the city but we thought that'd be enough.
After visiting the tourist information they suggested a trip to the museum of New Zealand. It was really good and a fun place to see, things for all ages to do. The building covered all things NZ, climate, landscape, sports, immigration, in a new and interactive way, really worth a visit and totally free.
As we'd been slumming it for a few nights we agreed to head for a curry at an Indian just by our hostel, it was a nice change, although we were the only people in the restaurant with it being a Sunday evening.
