We packed up the tent pretty quickly with the sun out which made things much easier. We'd heard on the local radio about a horse race taking place at the local track so we arrived there a few hours before the races started. The clouds soon covered but it was good fun getting involved. We stayed for 4 races but didn't manage to win back a single dollar of the entrance fee, cutting our £5.50 loses we left mid afternoon, back on the road for a few hours.
We knew very little about the next stop, Lake Tekapo, but when we arrived into town it was absolutely stunning! The lake was emerald green, gorgeous blue skies, surrounded by "proper mountains" as Tom described them, up near the top on the highlights of this trip!
The town was pretty packed but we managed to find a tent pitch in the YHA, the first YHA of the trip so far. The pitch was sat metres form the lake, we sat, made tea and enjoyed the view, stunning, would be nice to visit in winter when the mountain and town is full of snow.
