We slept pretty well in a bed for a change but it was now time to rough it for a couple of days at the DoC campsites.
We had to be back in Picton at the far north-east of the island within three days so it was time to get some miles under our belt. It was 11 am by the time we were actually off but we had a great drive for about four hours stopping at the view point for cheese and crisp butties for lunch, good stuff.
We managed to avoid numerous dangerous driving manoeuvres from the Kiwi drivers en route and made it to the campsite in good time, they really can't drive. We pitched up and went for a walk to see the Franz-Josef Glaciers, it was really nice to see. Not really equipped properly we had to take our shoes off to walk through the rivers. The river flowing under the glacier was really gushing, thankfully we didn't need to wade through that!
As now seems the norm we had to once again contend with the sandflies while cooking our tea. After tea, we managed to get some real good photos of the sun setting over the lake.
