The security on the campsite/Rugby field was really good and we even managed to get some good sleep last night. Having had enough of the madness here we agreed to drive on for a few hours and return to Queenstown in a couple of days on our way back up towards the ferry. So we set off to do the number One in "Kiwi Things to Do", Milford Sound. Knowing absolutely nothing about it, other than where it was on a map we set off. As we drove the wind steadily picked up and when we were within about 2 hours of Milford we pulled into the tourist information to find out what was actually at Milford Sound. As we entered we read the board which said "SEVERE WEATHER WARNING" for that evening, strong winds (which obviously were starting to arrive), and a big storm, the plans for Milford were off for today but we thought we'd find out why it was such a "must do". Turns out there were some amazing walks which you had to book for in advance, didn't have the gear, nor did we have the experience to do so that was off, and the other options were to spend £200 on a cruise in the rain which wasn't an option, so thinking about our poor tent in mega high winds in checked into a "Deluxe Cabin" ( we're still not sure what was Deluxe about it, not too bad though at £12.50 each for the night and at least we could stay warm and dry for the night) that was all that was available in the town. Once we'd checked in, we drove up in the direction of Milford Sound for a hour or so, shame we'll be missing it but its something to do next time we visit and at least we'll know to get some hiking gear sorted. Again that evening we used a very busy kitchen to cook our tea and had to sit outside in the rain to eat it as the dining room was far to small for all the people that were on the site. We spent the rest of the evening making the most of the TV in our room and watched a couple movies.
