Day 144, 25 November 2012, Chelmsford to Writtle walk for lunch at the pub. Mission failed. In complete contrast to yesterday, today dawned with blue sky and blazing sunshine. So despite the urge to curl up in bed, we dressed and headed off for a walk in the country. You may recall we headed to the nearby village of Writtle last week, and had a huge time. We tried to do it again but half way there, the path was covered in flood water and we had to backtrack (no gumboots you see). Never ones to let a small flood get in the way of Sunday pub lunch, we headed to the main road and found the Horse and Groom (pictured). We shared a roast chicken lunch and had gooseberry and ginger crumble with French vanilla ice-cream. Too good. Shame we shared really! Wandering home we were fascinated with the swollen rivers and creeks. We're not affected by the flooding where we are staying, but have seen shocking pictures of other areas of England under water. Hopefully the weather and waters subside soon. Packing today tomorrow then off to Edinburgh at the crack of dawn Tuesday.
