Day 134, 15 November 2012, Chelmsford... Enough to make you avoid information desks... We headed into town after lunch to print out our many and varied e-tickets and booking confirmations for the forthcoming trips to York, Edinburgh ad Budapest. Not knowing the town too well, we googled the Visitor Information Centre. That led us to the County Hall where there was a mildly helpful looking receptionist... but no information as such. (Note, just to get here we had to walk past a business called Mailboxes, Etc - that does private mail boxes, shipping, and so forth. But had nothing advertised on it's window about internet access or printing). Anyway, the mildly useful receptionist said best place to access internet and do some printing was the Library - Just go back out on the street, down the block and 75% round the block. And make sure you walk past Mailboxes, Etc again (ok... she didn't say the last bit). So we did. And eventually got to the library about 2 pm. Exceedingly helpful lady said no trouble at all, but I'd need a library card to use the computers and printer. Wouldn't take a minute. Another gentleman assisted and said in passing... the next available computer will be after 3 pm. But if you want it a bit quicker you should go to a place called Mailboxes, Etc... they're just around the block. Aaarrgh. Eventually made it back to Mailboxes and did a load of printing. And suggested they might tell the County Council they provide this service. On the infinitesimal off chance any other daft tourists end up in Chelmsford. Ever.
Also located a post office after asking half a dozen locals where it was. Not a lot of snail mail getting used in these parts it would appear. It was hidden on the top floor of a book shop, up the back. Behind the stationery. Must keep the crowds down at least.
In any event, printing, posting and massive amounts of walking around the block accomplished, we tootled off home to rest and recuperate.
