Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
It felt like a mission leaving Darwin this morning. Driving out the boomgate 5min before they lock us in we dropped by the first caravan we stayed to have a drink and let the kids wear off some energy on the jumping pillow before going on our drive. This was all good until we went to leave and the car wouldn't start. It sounded like a battery problem and because Super Cheap Auto was just a few hundred meters down the road, we took the battery out and walked it down for testing. The lady tested it and said it was fine just needed a charge. We sort a second opinion at a nearby shop and found out it had dropped a cell so we spent more money on the car buying a new battery!
Once going again it seemed to take ages to stock up on food again before eventually getting to leave Darwin just after lunch. We arrived at our destination at Litchfield National Park and were a bit unsure if we would get a camp this late but managed to find the last one at Bluey Rockhole.
We saw the magnetic termite mounds on the way in. They build there mound in a north-south manner to ensure one side is always in the shade to allow them to seek the consistent temperature termites require. Their entire nest is above ground unlike other termites so is avoids getting water-logged during the wet season.
