Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
So unfortunately we left Alice Springs a day too early because today is Territory Day which means we could have bought fireworks. The only day of the year you can buy and let off fireworks in the Northern Territory.
We started the day with a walk to Redbank Gorge which was about an hour round trip. It was
a combination of track, river bed and rock scrambling. The gorge was nice but would be great to take an inflatable and exlore up through the gorge. I think that is where it would get really good.
We then took a detour of our main route to Palm Valley. This involved about 40km of corrugated road before turning off and driving 18km to camp of which just this part took 30mins. I thought it would be worth the extra driving after reading many great reviews on Wiki Camps of people raving about how good it is...unfortunately I disagree. Yes it was a nice spot, but not worth the time and distance to drive here. It is however a popular spot and there are more kids then we have seen since Cairns. Unfortunately having showers (solar) at 5:30 was too late with them only being just warm enough to have a quick splash. We drove the 4km 4wd track which was easy having just a couple of short hills and the rest driving over a large plateau of rock. I didn’t realise
the 1hr walk I wanted to do left from here at this stage. So because we were here we did it late in the afternoon and I would describe it as okay. I had high expectations after reading peoples reviews but it was just average. I was expecting to walk amongst the palms instead we were walking parallel almost 100 m away.
