Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
Today was another great day with us all going on a helicopter ride over Nitmiluk National Park (a.k.a. Katherine Gorge). We flew over 8 of the 13 gorges in the 15min flight reaching speeds of almost 200kmph. Steve our pilot from Helispirit was great. With a maximum of 3 passengers on the Robinson R44, Matt, Zach and I went first and I got to sit in the front. The front had the doors taken off and felt really strange on the turn as the seat belt didn't lock tight on the lean. It was a bit bumpy with some winds in the area but Zach still had a good time.
On the ground Liam is always telling me "up up" when a helicopter flies overhead so I thought he would love it but also thought he may get scared. He sat on Nanna Jodie's lap in the back and he didn't cry once and he even fell asleep just before landing.
Driving into Kakadu National Park, I didn't get the feeling I expected. It felt like you could have been driving through any national park in Australia and had a mixed feel to it with bamboo trees, palm trees and gum trees along the road. Camping at Gunlom in Kakadu National Park we met a nice couple travelling that even came and made balloon figures (a motorbike and poodle) for the boys. The ranger runs a slideshow information on a big screen a couple of nights a week.
