Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
Driving through the West Macdonnell Ranges is a beautiful drive with nice scenery. I'm glad we did the other two sightseeing trips yesterday even if it meant backtracking as it would have been too much today. First stop, Ellery Creek Big Hole and this was my favourite along this route. It would be great to come during summer so you could swim here.
The ochre pits were good to see up close. There were a range of colours which the aborigines would mix with saliva or water to form a paste and use as paint.
Early afternoon we arrived at Orminstone Gorge and did the Ghost Gum walk. The track lead up to a lookout, then back along through the base of the gorge. I think this is a walk worth doing.
We found a great camp at Redbank Gorge on the ridge top. We were a bit worried about getting a spot due to a late arrival and limited spots but we got the last one at the front which seemed to suit us best anyway.
