Hey Everyone.
Have had a good few days. Went into project for a few hours on Tuesday after I'd done all my washing and sorted a couple other things. Was nice to see the kids again but 3 of the new volunteers are there now aswell, and they are all called Jess. Old Jess (been here a week, from NZ), Tall Jess (from Oz) and Small Jess (from Oz).
Went down to Fort Jesus for a swim with Tall Jess for a bit. Was good, except on the rocks there was these intestines (I assume from a goat) being used as bait. I nearly stepped in some.
Wednesday was a good day aswell. Project was fun - I got there at 6:30am! At lunch I made a blue chipatti using food dye. The kids liked it and it tasted the same, but the mamas wouldn't touch the thing and just kept saying 'Nick...you are crazy'. Emily looked at me like I was pure scum.
Pictures will all follow when I can be bothered. Maybe when I get home and it's a quick connection.
Wednesday night we went to the Castle as usual. When I was new it was annoying when people had a week or 2 left and for that reason they didn't bother getting to know you. But I'm a hypocrite now because I feel the same. But I got into a conversation with this girl Lauren from North Carolina (in the South of America)
We talked for hours. I started off saying that all the American's I've met are nice but as a country, they suck. We talked about the arrogance, Iraq and friendly fire, Vietnam. Then WW2 got raised and howe they saved us and I felt a bit daft. I learnt so much. Lauren is not a stupid girl at all, but American's lack of knowledge about outside America is shockingly poor. She told us she didn't know and nioehter did half of America, that Australia is the country, NOT the continent. So we taught her Oceania/Australasia.
We tried telling her the Sahara desert was inbetween Poland and Russia which she sort of took the bait but me and Chuck were very convincing.
Anyway everyone went but me and Lauren were still talking. We headed to Bella Vista then where she went in the DJ booth and started scratching, and then we actually went out to Tembo and got in at 3am.
Obviously had morning off on Thursday, but we took the kids to the beach in the afternoon and had a really good time.
Friday morning I taught the kids multiplication because Teacher Mary is on holiday now. They knew it already I was just recapping. Was crazy. Then DFanish Julie came to meet me and took me to restoration
The kids are much older and they were doinmg songs and drama which they are performing at a hotel on Xmas Day. It's a great place but differenmt to Tumaini - Most of the orphanges apart from Tumaini have some level of courruption, and much less publicity so they are poorer. You'll see what I mean when I put some pics on. They have mud huts and 3 kids to a bed. But I'm going to watch a dress rehearsal on Xmas Eve. Should be good.
Run out of money now but its all good. Bought some Christmas presents and Saturday will be the last day I can get anything done! Sunday is always quiet, Monday is Christmas Eve, Tuesday Christmas Day, Wednesday Boxing Day, Thursday Voting Day (Public Holiday), Friday (Inital Results - Public Holiday) and then I leave on Saturday morning!
Big night out to Tembo tonight. Should be fun. Going to play football at FOrt Jesus tonight. 30 minutes each way...I've not run for that long for a while!
Not much else to report. 8 days until I leave now.
