Hey Everyone.
Wen't for a night out in Mombasa last night. Went to this outdoor club - they are really strict with security...get searched twice on the way in.
It was quiet as it was a Wednesday but there are still prostitutes everywhere. And no...we wern't interested. About 8 girls and 2 lads including me went out. When we were waiting for the matatus there, one pulled up and we said we couldn't all fit in, so they kicked all the Kenyans out so we could have it! Everything here has a white tax, or mzungo (white person) tax but you just say you live here and speak a bit of Swahili and they realise you are NOT stupid.
Didn't drink much because if you remember what happened last time I drunk with my malaria tablets...
Caught in some weird love triangle after just 6 days...but those of you who actually care about that will get an email about it I reckon.
Went to bed at 3am so needless to say I didn't go into the project until a bit later, 10am I was there I think. Spent all morning with Bungle and Cathrine organising kids clothes to sell at the market.
This afternoon was amazing. There is a girl called Hope who is 4 but has been very ill and abused in her life, so she can't talk or walk. But today she walked by herself for the first time - Shes 4 years old!! But it was amazing and I was filming her at the time.
Also, I taught some of the older lads (5,6,7 year olds) how to play dodgeball...at 1pm...in the 35 C heat! They loved it but I nearly died. Went home about 3 after taking the babies for a walk and stocked up on loads of biscuits and crisps and fanta.
Safari tommorow morning so don't expect to hear from me until Sunday/Monday night. Can't wait and I'm sure I'll have some great pictures when I come back. We leave at 6am tommorow. Spend the first night in a tent and the 2nd night in a lodge.
The food here is a bit crap...too much veg but I knew that was coming so I live off bread, sugar and chipattis. Off for a pizza after this though.
There's so much I want to explain about the culture, but I can't. One thing that is just mad which I've mentioned is the driving. Matatu's just drive like f***ing idiots and the things have no seatbelts! They play chicken with each other for crying out loud. Only way to travel aswell.
Coming back in a couple of hours with a few more pics I took in the home today.
Heard of quite a few of you and its good to know your OK. Talk to you monday!
