Neil's Round the World Trip!
I made it down for the free breakfast at the usual time of 10.55am just before the kitchen shuts. I had to move to Ben's dorm because a group of French people are taking over my dorm. The new dorm really stank! I was in a goslow mode and took ages to finally get ready.
Me and Ben walked to La Casa Roja to find my watch but it wasn' there. We then walked through the dodgy area north of Barrio Brasil. We decided to walk to the General Cemetery as it's meant to be quite spectacular and it's a nice day. The cemetery has a huge memorial dedicated to the missing victims of the Pinochet dictorship but we couldn't find it. The cemetery was huge and filled with large family mausoleums. They were so big each had a cellar to allow relatives to visit the different tombs. We also saw how strong the Catholic faith is here, we were sitting near a huge cross with Jesus nailed to it and a couple walked by bickering but as soon as they saw the cross they both stopped and crossed themselves twice. Then they carried on with their argument. It was nice hanging out in the huge cemetery although it was a really warm day and we soon decided to leave and find a shop selling water or soft drinks.
We walked to the Plaza de Armas and sat in the beautiful square in the afternoon sun. The square was so busy with artists, preachers, couples, vendors and tramps. We went into the Museo Historico and looked at the colonial and republican artefacts. We were feeling hungry so we went to the Chinese restaurant I'd been to earlier in the week. We had a set meal for two and watched the Colo Colo match that was on in the restaurant.
Later we just sat in the hostel lounge and chatted to a girl from Yorkshire. We watched an awful film called 40 year old virgin and went to bed.
