Tuesday, June 7: We had marketing class at 9 am and once again it was tough for all of us to get up early! We were in class till around 11:30. After class Melanie went back to the apartment, while Lindsey and I went to Oliver's, a sandwich shop near the university. I got an Italian chicken sandwich that was really good! They use all fresh ingredients and bread. After we had got our sandwiches we headed to the Agora to eat and upload some pictures. I had gotten all current events on Facebook, the news, and People.
At 2:00 p.m. we were heading on another field trip. This time we went to the diamond district here in Antwerp. Antwerp is famous for their diamonds and many U.S. jewelers receive their diamonds from here. We visited the Diamond Center, which is a wholesaler of diamonds. They cut raw diamond into sparkly diamonds. We had a guide who explained the history of diamonds and the importance that diamonds have on the economy in Antwerp. During our guide's long exasperated talk it was very hot and many of us thought we were going to pass out! We then got to look at some very pretty jewelry. All of the girls found their engagement rings I believe! J We were challenged to find the most expensive piece, and it was I believe around 42,000 Euros. In our walk out we were able to see some craftsmen working and actually cutting some diamonds out. We were told that a 1-caret diamond takes 3 days to cut! After the Diamond Center we walked through the street where much of the trading of diamonds is done. Here you can see many men dressed in business suits and walking around with a briefcase handcuffed to their wrist.
After were done with our tour many of us still had to go grocery shopping so we went to the grocery store. Melanie and I decided it would be a good idea to get some wine. Not only did we get wine, we got a box of wine! We knew we would have a good night after this! We then walked back to the apartments had some chips and guacamole to eat and then went up to Jordan, Zach, and Nyland's room to have cocktail hour! Lindsey and I then brought our pizza up to the guy's room to cook. Well we preheated the oven and put the pizza in, and after a few minutes I went to check on the pizza and smoke came rolling out. I am starting to see a trend when Lindsey and I try to cook in the oven! Haha! Our pizza turned out and we only set the smoke alarm onceJ. Well once everyone arrived besides Jenny and Devin we decided to play Catch Phrase guys vs. girls. Man was that a fun time! The girls won of course! Mary and Renata even came up and played with us! Well after the game was done and we all had a few glasses to drink we decided to heat to Barracuda, another of the local college student bars. We went there for a couple drinks and then came home and went to bed.
Wednesday, June 8: Today we had class at 9 A.M. once again. Lindsey, Melanie, and I actually got up early considering we were up so late last night! It was a rough morning in class and we went the whole time till Noon. After class I went to the Agora and downloaded a movie for us to watch and then headed to the apartment to eat lunch and take a nap. When I got back Lindsey and Melanie already were crawling into bed. Well after our naps Melanie went for a run and Lindsey went to the Agora with Bailey and Kailee. We have a test on Friday in our Marketing class so we are studying tonight and going to bed early! For dinner a few of us are going to a pizza, pasta, and salad place. Tomorrow we will be heading to Brussels to visit the EU headquarters.
Salukes! Good Bye! -Michelle
