We had our European Union class from 9-12 like every other day. I wish we would be in international marketing more because I really enjoy that class. The European Union class is a little far over my head, the final next week should be interesting. We had the afternoon off of class because we had another round of "speaking Flemmish" at 5:30.
Michelle, Lindsey, Bailee and I spent the afternoon grocery shopping and hanging out at the apartments. We learned while buying groceries that some places here do not take our credit cards unless their is a certian chip on it that makes it international or something. I never know which cards are going to work so I just buy everything in Euros, I make more than enough trips to the ATMs here. You do not realize how much you spend here because the dollar to euro exchange rate is so high. When I withdraw 100 Euros, my bank account at home reflect that I withdrew $144 American dollars. Going to dinner you think 8-10 Euros is pretty cheap until you remember that just means you spent 11-15 of your American dollars. It did not take us much time to figure out that money goes a lot faster here.
For lunch I tried a Donner Kebob today from the local Kebob shop in the central market place near the University, it was really good! Some people went to the Agora to get the faster internet in the afternoon to study and download pictures or Skype. I stayed back at the apartment to attempt to do some homework but ended up taking a short nap instead. Motivation to study over here is really hard. There always seems to be something you would rather be doing or out exploring than sitting in reading a textbook and notes.
I caught up with the people at the Agora a bit later to meet for a few drinks before Flemmish class. The bar across from the University is called De Prof and they were having a tequila shot special….Somehow that sounded like a good idea….by the time class started, there were quite a few of us that had/thought we had become pretty good at Flemmish J
We got through class and headed back out to De Prof for a bit. We stopped by the apartments to grab dinner and a have a few drinks in with everyone before heading out to the main strip to test out some bars. We found some fun pubs and a few cool places to hang out down there. Later in the night we made our way to the University bars and spent the rest of the night there. Met some locals which was really fun. They taught me the proper way to greet people in Belgium. They are fun to talk to and you learn some pretty interesting stuff about Europe from them. It was a late night, but the most fun night we have had here so far! Glancing around the classroom this morning, it appears that most people had a good night!
