This jetleg is brutal. I still cannot adjust to this time. I was up till about 2:30am Belgium time and woke up before my alarm on my phone went off at 7, I still cannot seem to set my alarm right, they use military time over here and I screw it up every time I try to set stuff on my cell phone I have here (Military time: One of the many differences about Belgium and America that is hard to get used to). Michelle sleeps for 12 hours at a time, its unbelievable and I am very jealous.
So after the early morning start, we met everyone at the Augora again for breakfast. Their yogurt parfaits and scrambled eggs with ham in them are awesome. The guys steal the whole bowl of Nutellla every morning and have now started to bring extra bags to stuff food in for later. Jenny broke a plate today at breakfast which was pretty entertaining and drew more attention to our group than we do on a normal day. We started European Economic Integration today with a professor that teaches for the University of Antwerp. He has a pretty thick Belgium accent so I pretty much was lost from 9am-12pm (Michelle however took a million notes like always and understood so now I have my own personal secretary that can interptut what the heck is going on)
After class Michelle, Kailee and I went to the local farmers market. It was pretty cool, it had a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit, meat and a bunch of random stuff like clothes and scarfs. We cooked at the apartment for lunch today to save some money. Lunch meat and potato salad with an apple, what can I say I am on a budget. We went back to the apartment to meet up with the rest of the group to begin our second class for the day which was a walking retail tour. We took the train to Carfor (Europe's Walmart) and spent time their "observing" the store for research for this upcoming paper we have to write. I feel like I kind of missed the point and spent the time shopping and bought a new "satchel" purse instead (so ugly but in Europe apparently it's the way to go so you don't get your stuff stolen). People here honestly do not talk loud at all. In public places you can hear a pin drop. You can just about imagine 20 American college students on a train trying to stay quiet, it was quite the train ride to and from our destinations today J We took the train back to Maire Street which is the shopping strip downtown and pretty close to our apartment. All the expensive shops like Gucci and Tiffany's and all the designer shops are on that street. Pretty much any store you can think of that Europe has is along that strip. The architecture here is really cool and everyday there are new buildings that catch your eye.
After we shopped for a bit Jordan, Nick, Michelle, Lindsey and I went to the train station to check tickets for Saturday when we head to Amsterdam. We found this strawberry kabob place that was dipped in chocolate and it was probably one of the most delicious things ever! Also the train station has a Starbucks, I was very excited!!!!!!!!!!! We also saw a movie being filmed at the train station on our way out so that was pretty exciting. On the way back to the apartment we stopped at the movie theater to check times for Pirates of the Caribbean; which we are going to see in a few minutes. I also stumbled upon an all you can eat sushi place which made my day until I saw the price…that was a fail at like 30 euros.
We just got back to the apartment and Michelle and Lindsey are attempting to bake chicken and potatoes for dinner (When I say attempting I mean halfway burning down the apartment by smoking the place out due to the lack of knowledge of how to use a European stove). I'm guessing someone will be making a McDonalds or Quickie burger run here shortly J. All in all it was a really nice day, sunny and in the low 70's, we walked a ton as usual and tomorrow is another full day. Still got tonight left which will be pretty low key with a movie and then possibly a quick stop by the bar Baracuda for a drink before bed. Wanted to also say congratulations to Tanner on graduating today! Wish I could be there! Love you bud! -Melanie
