2nd July 2010
After 6 wonderful days at Wycombe we dragged ourselves away and hit the road to Carnarvon Gorge National Park.We arrived at the park mid afternoon and checked in to Takaraka Bush Camp for a few days.

We had a bit of sleep in before doing a bit of hiking around the park.Overall we did about 10km's of hiking for the day.We started with the hike up to Boolimba Bluff for views over the area, then we hiked to Mickey Creek Gorge - a very narrow, high sided gorge cut from the sandstone by a small creek - before finishing off with a quick look at some aboriginal painting at Baloon Cave.
It was an early dinner in the camp kitchen before heading to bed early as we needed plenty of rest for our big walk the next day.

What a day!We did a 25km walk and were totally wrecked by the end of the day.We hiked all the way to Big Ben which is the end of the main walking trail where we had a look at Boowinda Gorge before settling in for lunch at Cathedral Cave. Then we headed back down the track for looks at the Art Gallery, Wards Canyon, The Amphitheatre and the Moss Garden. It was a very long walk but it was well worth it as the scenery was pretty spectacular. It was another early dinner - thank god for leftovers - before hitting the sack for some much wanted sleep. We were absolutely stuffed and could feel every muscle in our body!

Oooow! We are sore today.Thankfully we packed up most of our stuff last night so it wasn't long before we were on the road to Rocky where we spent a few days with Mel's family.
