Started the day with bacon and eggs on toast with a coffee which everyone enjoyed, even some kookaburras tried to get in on the action!!!
After breaky we headed off in the Nissan to "the desert", which is a popular place to tabogane down sand dunes. It wasn't that far of a drive but, as we have been doing alot on the island, we took a few wrong turns and ended up on private property at Tangalooma resort. This guy pulled us up and we thought he was gonna go off his nut but he was pretty nice and gave us good directions. When we did arrive at the sand dunes the girls were pretty excited. Marty and Meg climbed the dune first so Boo and l could take pics. When they finally reached the top and tried to come down, the board (piece of long narrow ply we bought the day before) just dug into the sand. Marty even tried pushing Meg down by herself, but no luck. Well Boo and l thought we knew better, so off we went and finally got up the top huffing and puffing, got Boo on the board, and nothing!!! Really cheesed off now that it seems like a waste of time. Got talking to this lovely couple and their older kids, who had knee boards, and the older girl was kind enough to lend Boo her board and have a go. So off we went and climbed the steep dune again, Boo got on the board and off she went!! She flew down the hill and had am awesome time. Next minute a tonne of people turned up with a tour guide with their ply boards and l was eager to see how they went. They also flew down!! So off l trot up the dune with my ply board to see what l was doing wrong. He was rubbing wax on the shiny side, so l asked nicely to borrow some and he reluctantly let me us it so not to look like a p****in front of his tour group!!! Lol.. After l waxed the board up, l went off, layed down flat on my stomach, head first on the board and off l went....quick as anything, totally s***ting my pants when l hit a bump and next minute my mouth, up my nose and in my ears were all full of sand!!!! Didn't matter though because it was such a thrilling thing to have just done, loved it!!! Boo was also eager to give the board a go, so up she went and down she quickly came several times, stacking it at the end of each ride, also filling everything with sand!! Lol...Awesome family fun had by all..
After an hour or so we had had enough and were pretty puffed so headed back to camp to have a quick swim before lunch to wash all the sand out of everything. Boo and l snorkelled again whilst Meg paddled in the shallow surf and Marty had a fish off the beach.
In the afternoon after lunch and a bit schooling for Boo, we cranked up the water heater and had a lovely hot shower. All our hair was starting to feel pretty dirty and needed a good wash. We all felt and looked human again!!!
Around 5pm we headed off to Tangalooma beach resort to watch the dolphins come in for a feed. We had packed snags to cook up at the beach and have in bread for tea. Cant believe that you can only participate in the feeding of these wild dolphins if you are staying at the resort which is disappointing. Anyhow, we had to drive about half a kilometer from the resort to park the car because it is private property and walk up along the beach to the pier to finally get to watch these wild dolphins come up for feeding. Bit of an effort but we thought it would be worth it... There are about 8 wild dolphins that come up every night around 6pm for a feed. One of the dolphins who arrived first was named Bella, and she was the oldest female and is starting to loose her sight, which was a bit sad to hear. Anyway, the girls loved watching them all come in and swim around. About 50-60 people lined up in their swimmers or wet suits to feed the dolphins. Water was freezing by the looks as was watching a teen boy go in then suddenly cupped his balls and shuddered a bit (lol).. They have to sanitize their hands and aren't allowed to touch or handle them in any way as it is illegal to touch a wild dolphin apparently. Watching them feed the dolphins, we didn't feel ilke we missed out on much. Was awesome to see them so close and free to come and go as they please. Must admit did think of Dusk and Melissa at this time as they would have loved it!!!
After a while, Meg started getting cold so we headed off along the beach with our head torches on and made our way back to the car. The tide had come in fully by this stage so we got a little wet but not too bad. Got home and tucked the girls in to bed. Marty has headed off for a night fish whilst l update the blog and enjoy some quiet time....
Another amazing day, plan to go to a place called "blue lagoon" tomorrow for a swim. It's meant to be a spectacular swimming hole with freshwater.
