Well we survived our first day and night at moreton island!!!! Marty and l are very happy with the tent. It was also great to fall asleep listening to the ocean and to hear the same when you woke up (behind the noise of the girls of course!). However, we did not expect to wake up to a near 2 meter python snake just outside our tent. Marty had got up to go start his day when l heard a frightful "holy s***" come out of his mouth whilst moving to the other side of the tent. When l asked what's wrong? He answered "there's a bloody snake out here!", of course l thought he was joking and got up to look myself, and there it bloody was!!! Right where we were walking through the night before going to the toilet!!!! I shat myself, Marty was mesmerized and the girls found it fascinating! After having breakfast and staring at the snake the whole time, we got ourselves ready to explore the island.
We all piled in the car and headed off for what we thought was a quick drive....Four and a half hours later we got back to camp with the girls so hungry for lunch! It was an adventurous drive ranging from beach driving, sandy tracks thru the national park, seeing rusted ship wrecks off the coast, a cool lighthouse and some poor dead turtles washed up on shore. There was also some frightening times when we nearly got bogged in the sand, by which we smelt burning clutch a few times!!! Lol. The beach is glorious and the water is a beautiful bluey torqoise in color.
After our pleasant drive (haha) we had lunch back at camp after surveilling the area for the snake (which had gone), then got the girls into their swimmers and went for a walk along the beach down to "the wrecks". It was about a 3.5 km round trip walk, which took us about an hour, and the girls did well on the sand. It was helped that they could run into the water a little and get wet without me screaming at them to stay dry!!! Lol. Anyhow, the wrecks are amazing!! They are old whaling ships that were brought out here and dumped. They are all rusted out and look majestic in the water. We are going to try and do snorkeling up here sometime in the next few days we decided. And what's not a walk without boo injuring herself!! This time she stood on a starfish amd took some skin off the bottom of her foot. Poor pet, now she's frightened of them and took a bit of coaxing to get her to go in the water again!
After our walk, the girls and l had a little swim in the waves whilst Marty tried to have a fish, no luck there. Then we headed back to camp for a rest, Boo and l did some schooling and then had our first shower with the water heater. So glad we brought it, couldnt have cold showers here. Marty then cooked us a beautiful tea of chicken breasts with steamed veggies!!! It was yummy and we were so hungry from our expeditions earlier in the day. We were all tuckered out again so headed in the tent for an early night to then hear an animal of some sort growling outside the tent!!! Shat myself again, Marty went out to investigate and couldn't make out what it was other than describing it as looking like a wallaby but the size of a big cat!!!! Still don't know what it was but by crickey's we are sure getting close to nature!!!
