it is eight am in the morning and my sunday is about to begin here in Melbourne,, No idea yet what the day will bring but we will see. I spent my first day at Melbourne Park yesterday, watching some of the qualifhying matches and practices there.
First I met a girl from Swiss and we decided to have breakfast together in town. We shared the room last night, so i didn't have it for myself after all. After breakfast she did a walk through the city, leading past some beautiful buildings. I joined her for half of the walk, till the Federation Square. Here's also a Visitor center and I took a look inside to collect some brieflets abut interesting places to visit here in Melbourne. Suddenly my eye was caught by some paperwork sbout surfing, and being my own changable me, I walked out of the door with another day of surfing planned. So friday january 25th, I go surfing on a spot on the great ocean road. And I am looking forward so much to it! :))
So with a big smile I continued my walk to Melbourne Park, which was only 20 minutes more. In the RLA was an engt going on with Roger Federer, Tsonga, Djokovic, Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic and a blond girl who i don't remember. It was fun to catch up with Hatice too, a woman I met in 2008 in Paris, when she and her daughter were there for Roland Garros. I never could have known by then that I would once come to their Grand Glam ;).
She showed me around a bit and then I found some people on courts that other people like, so I took some pics. It's so funny how players watch their countrymates. Argentinian Diego Schwartzman was playing and two people watching were Pico Mónaco and Eduardo Schwank. I only took one pic of Pico though, as he talked to Edu and I felt caught,. Don't ask me, it's a long story from a few years ago... Then I watched most of the match of Spaniard Javi Marti, with on the tribune Dani Gimeno Traver. On another court was Dani Munoz de la Nava, and I ran almost into Guillermo García-Lopez,. And many more were there, but not everyone is recognisable hehe. I sat down a while to watch Jan Mertl, very friendly guy from Czech republic, who played in Holland in Alphen aan den Rijn, when I saw Marco Chiudinelli walking to his court. So long Jan Mertl, business to do, and again I went with camera to a court for shooting pics. Quite busy for just a qualifying day. ;)
AT 3 pm I had to find the way to the bridge above the practice courts because I had found out that Feli would take court 16 for an hour. Standing there, I got a message that Fernando would be on Hisense ARena for day 1, so straight to the ticket office I went, with some girls who I just met this week, also fan of the spaniards.
Now I will be monday on Hisense Arena, with 6 others, cheering on Fernando there. My day is extra busy because I'd like to start with ALmagros match, then to Fernando, then racing to court 11 for Feli and ending on Hisense for David Ferrer. Not sure yet how to do it, but we will see. I went with the three girls for dinner to a foodcourt and after that to the hostel to check in my new room.
this toom is a mixed dorm again, with 6 germans and one other dutch guy and me. Hehe Europe takes over in Melbourne. ;) I had to celebrate my start of the Aussie Open in style and drank a couple of wines in a café in town. It's saturday evening after all, and I am not going out here because that's a waste of dollars. I prefer spending them on tennis or on extra days of surfing, haha!
